Elementary Teacher, 2nd grade
JCDS, Boston's Jewish Community Day School, is hiring an elementary teacher for 2nd grade starting in August, 2026.
A JCDS teacher models the core values of a JCDS education: integrity, perseverance/resiliency, curiosity, multiple perspectives/empathy, problem solving, reflection and evidence, and creates a student-centered, rigorous, play-infused learning environment for students.
Responsibilities
As a 2nd grade general studies teacher you will co-teach a class of about 24 students. You will be responsible for teaching literacy, numeracy and social studies content and skill acquisition. In addition you will:
- Build a community of learners and a classroom culture that is based on authentic relationships and structured, explicit expectations
- Develop curriculum, implement best practices, and differentiate instruction in the areas of Literacy, Math, Social Studies, and Science
- Evaluate the progress of students and discuss progress results with students, parents and administrators
- Develop course materials and curriculum content that is rich, engaging and innovative, and that focuses on students' needs
- Set up and maintain a classroom space that supports a project based approach to instruction and that works to integrate general and Hebrew/Judaic studies
- Identify children’s individual learning needs and design learning experiences to support them
- Collaborate with other classroom teachers to ensure a cohesive, loving classroom environment
Qualifications
We are looking for people who can demonstrate a passion for teaching elementary-aged children and for collaborating with colleagues to create a joyful, Jewish learning community. In addition, we are looking for people who meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- Experience with a range of programs and tools for teaching literacy including phonics, word study, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension skills
- Preferred experience with Math in Focus and with math enrichment for students who are ready
- Deep understanding of how to design and run an academic program that meets the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of young children
- Demonstrated ability to teach students with diverse learning styles
- Excellent communication, organization, and class management skills
- Able to integrate multicultural perspectives into teaching
- Committed to ongoing professional development
Salary & Benefits
- Salary is $58K-$64K per year, commensurate with experience
