Schechter Boston is hiring an experienced Jewish Studies educator to serve as a Grade 6–8 Jewish Studies Teacher and Jewish Studies Curriculum Coordinator starting in the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time role combines classroom teaching with schoolwide curriculum leadership, advancing our vision of Jewish learning from early childhood through eighth grade.

Job Description

Working both independently and in close collaboration with the Director of Learning and Teaching, the Director of Jewish Life and Learning, and the Jewish Studies team, the Jewish Studies Curriculum Coordinator will serve  primarily as a classroom teacher as well as a schoolwide instructional leader

As a Classroom Teacher, the role includes:

  • Designing and teaching text-focused Jewish Studies lessons and units that engage students in active, interpretive learning

  • Planning and implementing differentiated instruction, activities, and assessments to meet the needs of diverse learners

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students

  • Creating and maintaining a safe, organized, and well-structured learning environment

  • Participating in ongoing cycles of reflection and professional growth, both independently and collaboratively

As the Jewish Studies Curriculum Coordinator, the role includes:

  • Serving as an inspiring dugma ishit (role model), modeling a passionate, joyful, and intellectually serious relationship to Jewish life and learning

  • Coordinating the Jewish Studies curriculum across all grades, including:

    • Articulating learning goals

    • Designing and refining curricular units

    • Supporting assessment of student learning

    • Partnering with teachers to implement curriculum effectively

  • Expanding opportunities for student enrichment and academic support in Jewish Studies

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree or equivalent advanced study required

  • Strong background in classical Jewish texts (Tanakh and/or Talmud), with the ability to teach and support others in close textual study

  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting

  • Exemplary teaching skills and a commitment to reflective practice
